Looking Sideways Interview with Matt Barr

Interesting conversation with Matt Barr over at the Looking Sideways Podcast in May 2022.

We covered a lot of ground, including my sudden departure from the magazine I had helped to found in the 1990s, some of the reasons I decided to back away from the skateboarding world and my reasons for becoming interested in shooting skateboarding again. Also, attitudes to ‘creativity’ within photography and what I do now including the commercial work and other projects I’m involved in.

Great to catch up with Matt after many years. It was a rollercoaster for me but after the terrifying thrill of the ride, I wanted to get straight back on for more. Listening back, there is so much more I’d like to add.

Discussed amongst other things are the Read and Destroy Book Project which is ongoing, as well as the MK Skate Project and the No Comply group show in 2021 at Somerset House in London.

We also mention my Instagram account, so updates from that are linked below, as well as the blog where I attempt to reframe my skateboard photography archive in a bit more detail.

Updates about upcoming projects will be included here.
